

Bob & Suzanne's Wind Rider Equestrian Challenge, presented by Bob Jeffreys & Suzanne Sheppard at equine expos and equestrian facilities across the US and Canada is open to riders 12 years or older (minimum required age depends on location: in PA it is 12 years, in Canada it is 12 years, and in Wisconsin the minimum age is 14 years) from all disciplines including western, dressage, hunter/jumpers, trail riders, natural horsemen, gaited horse riders and more.. In the initial rounds up to 36 horse/rider teams will compete on a preliminary course that includes challenges drawn from gymkhana, dressage, reining patterns, jousting, gaited horse events, trail obstacles, cavalletti patterns, hunter pace courses, etc. In the final challenge round the four top scoring participants will compete for prizes by riding a new challenge course, and then performing a solo 3-5 minute freestyle!
The cross disciplinary course will consist of a pattern including some (but not limited to) of the following elements: circles cantered on the correct lead with speed control (gaited horses should be able to canter), lead changes, a 2 foot jump, trotting or gaiting while balancing an object in one hand, backing through and around barrels, sidepassing, ground poles, balanced halts, turn on the haunches or turnarounds, leg yielding, open/close a gate, dragging objects, and a ring joust.

Bob & Suzanne will reveal the final challenge course when the finalists are announced Saturday evening. In the finals, judges will select the Wind Rider Grand Champion, the Wind Rider Reserve Champion, and Wind Rider Runner Up based on criteria provided by Bob Jeffreys and Suzanne Sheppard.

Suzanne Sheppard's love of horses and their beautiful movement, knowledge of good biomechanics and teaching experience have all come together in her work as a horse trainer, Centered Riding Clinician and co-founder of Two as One Horsemanship™. Suzanne's cross disciplinary equine interests include trail riding, dressage, jumping, natural horsemanship, gaited horses and more. With a Masters Degree in Education, a black sash in T'ai Chi and more than 20 years of teaching experience, she is able to teach complex equitation concepts in a humorous, creative and down to earth style, which empowers horses and riders to fulfill their individual and
combined potential.
Each rider will be given a time limit in which to complete the entire course; it will be up to each rider to decide how much time to devote to each specific challenge. Falling off or failure to complete the course within the allowed timeframe will result in disqualification. Points will be awarded for each challenge on a scale of 0 to 5, with 0 being the lowest and 5 being the highest, based on the combined performance of horse and rider. Judging will be based on accuracy, horse's attitude, good horsemanship and excellence in equitation.
